Birmingham City’s path to toppling Wolves as Chris Davies sets new target

League One champions Birmingham City only have one target in mind for their final six games of the season.

Promotion was secured last Tuesday and the title followed on Saturday courtesy of Wrexham’s failure to beat Wigan Athletic.

Blues are now simply playing for records. With 95 points already on the board, Blues only require nine more to break Wolverhampton Wanderers’ League One points record.

Wolves won League One in 2013/14 with 103 points after a season in which they achieved 31 victories from their 46 matches.

Chris Davies will no doubt use the points record to motivate his players over the next two-and-a-half weeks.

“We’ve still got six games, two at home and four away, and within that there will be a day which I will savour where we’re going to lift a trophy,” said Davies.

“What we need is performances and results, of course, but performances we can be proud of between now and the end of the season.

“There’s still things to play for out there for us. Of course, the main job was returning this club to the Championship which we have achieved in style, but there’s still six games and we want to give them our all.”

Blues have Crawley Town, Burton Albion, Stevenage, Mansfield, Blackpool and Cambridge United to play still – they took 14 points from those six games the first time around.

Twelve points would see Blues break the EFL record of 106, which was set by Reading in 2005/06.

And there is still the possibility that Blues break the EFL record for the most wins in a single season, which is currently 33 set by Doncaster Rovers in 1946/47.
