Town Third Following Saturday Fixtures
Saturday, 14th Nov 2020 20:01

Town dropped to third following today’s League One fixtures with keeper-coach Jimmy Walker subsequently giving an assessment of the division and how he believes the Blues should fare during the campaign.

The Blues weren’t in action because their scheduled game at Blackpool was moved to the international break a month ago and ended in a 4-1 Town win.

Leaders Peterborough United were defeated 2-0 at Crewe Alexandra, while Hull City, who are at Portman Road a week on Tuesday, defeated Burton Albion by the same scoreline at the KCOM Stadium to go ahead of the Blues who were second going into the weekend. Sixth-placed Sunderland were beaten 2-1 at home by the MK Dons.

Assessing Saturday’s results on Twitter, keeper-coach Walker was bullish about Town’s prospects for the season, while admitting that they’re yet to hit top form.

Town are back in League One action when they face Shrewsbury at Portman Road next Saturday, the first of three home games on the trot with Charlton visiting the next weekend following the Hull fixture.

Before that, they could drop to fourth with Portsmouth, who are currently seventh, at Plymouth on Monday.

Meanwhile, Town’s U18s drew 2-2 with Cambridge’s youngsters in a friendly on the 3G at Playford Road on Thursday evening with the goals scored by Ola Bello and Tyrese Osbourne.

Doesn't he mean "wrap up"?
And "mite" - Isn't that an arachnid?
During the next international break, could we please send the staff on a grammar and spelling course?
Thanks.

Great result for Crewe Alex today. Best footballing side we've played so far. Like Town they need to learn the ugly side of the game to thrive at this level. Rotherham kicked their way out of league one last season. Playing good football is important but it's not enough.

Gosblue.
I'd say we have no problem mastering the ugly side of the game.
We don't play good football.
Apart from that, you're spot on.

I don't understand some of the fans, they expect us to win every game, which is fine, except we won't and neither will anyone else. We are third currently and doing well, all any of us can do is get behind the lads, being negative all the time is a waste and changes nothing COYB!!

This league is wide open and lacking in genuine quality. Not surprised Crewe won today based on the way they played against us and Sunderland are very average, fair play to MK for doing what we should have done. Our defence is solid so if we start moving the ball quicker with a bit more confidence, we've got the squad to win this league.

So Lambert keeps telling us the football we are playing is incredible yet@jimmywalker001 says "Well we're still 3rd and we've been decidedly average at best so far".

That's what all the fans have been seeing too Jimmy. We are incredible like Lambert says when we keep passing the ball between the midfielders and defenders and goal keepers!! The passing is out of this world!! The best passers in this division in this area of the pitch as the opposition let us pass it around.

What we need is QUICK passing between the midfielders and the players up FRONT!!

Isn't it ironic that Sunderland lose at home, decisive goal being a penalty. No soft /home favouring referee this time !!!!

A “mite” was also a small coin of nugatory value, hence the Biblical story of the Widow's Mite.

Judging from the context, I don't think he meant that although it might be an unconscious reference to the resources available for singing players.

Well things certainly evened up a bit for Sunderland yesterday on poor refereeing decisions, we just 3 or 4 pens in our favour to even things up for us.

If we can get 7 pets from our next 3 games I'd be happy. Charlton will be the toughest test yet I think.

Something of an exaggeration to suggest Walker has given an 'assessment' based on 2 tweets full of mis-spellings and emojis. No prizes for great journalism here TWTD.

Rotherham did not 'kick their way out' of League 1 last season, they were a good side as witnessed by the way they destroyed us at home

Why does Lambert after every game say we're playing really really well, when quite clearly we're not.. its unbelievable the football we're playing at the moment yet we've lost 5 in 7.. the bloke is totally clueless. Get him out of our club which is at an all time low

If we've been 'average at best - how does that bode well' with the pressure cooker of the 2nd half of the season to come?

Could do worse tha copy Peterborough in their player acquisitions and their attacking football.

Young fit physical fast and direct.

Change the record @nick8 I this has been said enough. We are third in the league with 3 home matches coming up. Let's see where we are after. As we've seen from this weekend any team can beat anyone and the league is very unpredictable. If we had lost to MK or Crewe as Sunderland and Peterborough did, Town would have been slaughtered on here! Lets get behind the team and manager!

Think you've been on the bottle again BB.

Posh aren't the best example! They didn't go up last season and once again they have shown to be very fragile in defence.
