Coventry City to step up Nottingham Forest hotshot chase as Chaplin departs for Barnsley

After it was confirmed that striker Conor Chaplin had completed a move to Barnsley, Nottinghamshire Live has claimed that Coventry City will now step up their pursuit of Nottingham Forest man Tyler Walker.

It was confirmed on Friday morning that Championship new boys Barnsley had completed a deal to sign striker Conor Chaplin from Coventry City, but the Sky Blues are wasting no time in finding a replacement.

It has been reported over the course of the summer that Mark Robins has been holding an interest in Nottingham Forest’s Tyler Walker. And, with Chaplin’s departure now confirmed, Coventry will look to step up their chase for the prolific striker.

Walker, 22, has proven himself to be a prolific goalscorer at League Two level during his time with Mansfield Town. Last season, the Forest academy graduate scored 26 goals in 52 games across all competitions with the Stags, helping the club achieve a place in the League Two play-off spots, where they were defeated by Newport County, succumbing them to another season in the fourth tier

Walker has spent time on loan with Burton Albion (six games, one goal), Stevenage (nine games, four goals and one assist), Port Vale (six games, two goals and one assist), Bolton Wanderers (five games) and Mansfield Town (52 games, 26 goals and four assists). The striker has also played 38 times for the Forest first-team, scoring six times along the way.

It awaits to be seen if Coventry will look to bring Walker in on loan for the upcoming season or if they use the money raised from the sale of Chaplin to bring the 22-year-old in on a permanent basis.
