Former Leeds United striker linked with managerial return at Brisbane Roar

Former Leeds United striker Robbie Fowler is being tipped for a long-awaited return to management with Australian A-League club Brisbane Roar.

The 43-year-old Toxteth-born former frontman has not managed at senior level since leaving Thai club Muangthong United in 2012.

Fowler has since coached with the Liverpool academy and is reported to have previously applied to become manager of former club Leeds United. According to reports by the Daily Record, Fowler is now thought to be one of the front runners for the managerial vacancy at A-League club Brisbane Roar. The Roar are looking for a new boss after John Aloisi recently left his position following a poor run of results.

It has been suggested that both Fowler and former Brentford and Nottingham Forest boss Mark Warburton could be contenders for the role.

As a player, Fowler netted 171 goals in 330 games for boyhood club Liverpool before moving to Leeds United in a reported £12 million deal. The striker scored 14 goals for The Whites but a catalogue of injury problems saw him take to the field on just 33 occasions.

After leaving Elland Road, Fowler went on to play for Manchester City before returning home to Liverpool where he added another 12 goals to his tally. Short spells with Cardiff City and Blackburn Rovers followed before the player ended his career overseas.
