Burton Albion already planning summer recruitment

It has been a season of transition for Burton Albion in League One in this campaign.

The Brewers were relegated on the final day of last season from the Championship but Nigel Clough has managed to steady the ship.

They are currently 11th and with making Play-Offs looking a tall order (11 points off), Clough already has one eye on the next campaign and will be eager for his side to compete further up the table.

The former Derby County boss has said, as per Derbyshire Live: “There won’t be wholesale changes in the summer, but that’s our main prerogative, trying to tie up the ones that we want to stay for next season,”

But also we’re looking at the few targets and concentrating on those. It’s all season, it’s an ongoing process. Which players do we like? What positions do we need? Who are we likely to keep in the summer from our own squad?”

Clough reiterated the fact that there will not be a lot of changes to his squad:” As I say, because of the business that we’ve done in the last couple of months, and the youngsters that are coming through and will be better next season for this year’s experience, there won’t be massive changes“.

Burton’s aim for the next couple of seasons will be to remain competitive in the third tier and who knows, maybe they could gain promotion back to the Championship over the next few years.
